More about Rey Rey:"The truth is not what comes out of your mouth, but what you believe in your mind As his stage name, “Freedom,” makes perfectly clear – Rey Rey Romero doesn’t like to be labeled. And neither does his music. A unique pop/soul hybrid that challenges the mind as much as it appeals to the ear, Freedom’s music effortlessly blends elements of blues, jazz, folk, reggae and hip-hop into a smooth yet invigorating brew of sound and emotion. In Freedom’s grooves, the listener will be drawn into lyrics inspired by the ideology and vision of revolutionaries like John Lennon, Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley. In short, Freedom sings and writes songs about love, fear, hope, longing and redemption. These are songs about the real world, sung by a man who has witnessed a life of growth and change. After spending the beginning of his career as a solo freestyle artist, and then fronting the merenge-house band Suficiente (which scored a pair of club hits in the late-1990s in Latin America and its native Miami, Fla.), Romero experience a relatively brief – albeit life-altering – stint in prison. Here, he had time to think – not only about the questionable reasons...Expand for more
for his imprisonment, but also his place and purpose in life. Romero describes this period as one of transformation, when he witnessed the behavior of people so intimately, it was as if he was learning about the depths and limits of humanity itself, wrapped in a lesson forced upon him within the cold, unforgiving confines of concrete, mortar and wire. Then came freedom. Reborn, Romero adopted the name “Freedom” and began writing songs that addressed not only the barriers he saw in the world he left behind in prison, but also the metaphorical walls he continued to see in the world outside. He also felt a need to use his newfound insight to speak to others Perhaps most importantly, however, he wanted to write songs about how he could tear those same walls down. Songs like the reggae-inflected “Liberty,” the hopeful yet poignant singer/songwriter pop of “Sad, Sad Word,” the tongue-in-check, no-frills honesty of the blues shuffle “U Think U Got Me Hooked,” and the intimate connections spawned by the love ballad “You Need Me,” all speak to his ambassadorial-like mission of unifying our souls through his music. Rey Rey Romero has had the pleasure in performing across the country in concerts and learning from top artist in the music industry such as Run DMC, Foxy Brown, LL. Cool J, Coolio, 112, Rome, Total, Shaggy, Los Hermanos Rosario, Wy-Clef, Barrio Boys, NU Flavor, Projecto Uno, Big Pun, La Makina, Frankie Ruiz and much more. Rey Rey was very well known in the industry; yet knowing there is a lot more to learn. Rey Rey’s objective is to obtain a rewarding recognition in the entertainment field that will allow him to utilize his talents and reach out to those in need to successfully change Humanity.".
